Level 8 (Part 1.8) Jump Dodges and Attacks

I got around to animating and creating the jump attack and dodge. It looks fairly smooth, but I’m not so sure otherwise. I also allowed green guys to refresh their abilities to dodge after a while, so kill them fast!

COMING UP: On-ground dodging, and improving animations for the bomb throws. I also want to introduce blitting for all character sprites, since they are the only MovieClips left onscreen.

Level 8 (Part 1.5) Explosions baby, explosions

So after getting a copy of Pete Rigby’s TimeLineFX, I started to have a little fun with the particle generator. Then after exporting some explosions, I realized that I should be blitting my animations to ease the animation/drawing process, and in turn improve performance. Took quite a while to convert most of this via Blitting methods, and it turned out pretty good. Anyways, I have a few things left to incorporate for this level, so stay tuned.

COMING UP: Just a few things to improve the AI for fallen enemies. Mainly some more dodging techniques. I’m more or less pretty complete with the enemy AI…except for when I introduce items and what not.

TimelineFX: Particle Generator for Explosions and other 2D effects

After working on some explosions, I could only find fairly lame solutions and my skills as an explosion artist were no good. The best (free) one I found was at Phaedy, its somewhat customizable, and it works pretty well for simple explosions. But then I came across this fairly interesting effect engine by Pete Rigby that runs on Windows and Mac, and it looks pretty robust — you can add hundreds of customizable effects to suit your gaming needs. Anyways, I’m definitely going to purchase this, it goes for about $30 (or 19 Pounds) and you can try the demo it if you like, but the demo doesn’t allow you to export the creations.

Anyways the author even posts up tutorials, seems helpful, I’m going to give this a whirl.

UPDATE: I purchased the copy, and even though I had some problems, I was able to contact the developer (Pete) directly and he was rather quick about making adjustable updates. Anyways I highly recommend this product, playing around with this has slowed down my own development!

BOOM! So this is basically a playground for my projects, in which I strive to improve, or create new flash games.

I intend on using your feedback to improve these games, so go ahead and suggest ideas -- if they're awesome you should expect to see them soon buddy.
